I am thinking about the Sunshine State of Florida. Although summer is in full swing and cold weather seems a long way off. However, now is a good time to plan a winter break – especially if you want to get away over Christmas or New Year. These weeks fill up fast. It makes sense to think ahead.
If you crave sunshine during the grey days of winter and want to take the little ones on a special adventure, consider Florida. The Sunshine State enjoys winter temperatures of 18 to 25 degrees and is easy to get to. You can fly directly to Fort Lauderdale from most European airports. Now there are also evening flights with Norwegian Air (from Barcelona).
As an adolescent, I spent many winter and Easter holidays in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My family lived there for part of the year and I’d been dreaming of taking my kids there. I knew it would be easy to find a suitable place to stay. Funnily enough, I found the perfect resort for families right next to where I used to spend my holidays!
Family Run
The family-run Lago Mar Beach Resort & Club has long been a Florida favourite for those travelling with children. The hotel is set in a quiet location on the ocean but away from the action. Ideal for a relaxing beach holiday.
The spacious rooms and suites are all suitable for families. There are two pools, a private beach and various outdoor sports on offer and there is plenty of entertainment on site. Little ones tend to mingle naturally at the playground. The resort regularly hosts special events with live entertainment for younger visitors.
Outside the hotel the list of activities is endless too: there are great interactive museums, pirate boat tours, the Seaquarium in Miami, the Everglades, the Orlando theme parks, and much more.
I’m very glad to have found this beautiful place and we will certainly be returning to Lago Mar in the future.
