Corfu, Greece
Corfu is a popular tourist destination, and it is not hard to understand why: its lush scenery and idyllic beaches, combined with picturesque villages and architectural gems make this a perfect place for holidays in the sun.
Corfu Town, with its stunning Venetian architecture, is definitely worth a visit. The harbour is a great place to wander around, offering a large choice of galleries and museums. The French built promenade, known as Liston, and the main square, called Spianada, are some of the city’s most iconic spots. The arcades are full of cosy cafés to sit down and relax during a busy sightseeing day. The city’s old town was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007.
Other interesting places to visit on the island area Achillion Palace (the former retreat of empress Sissi of Austria), Mon Repos palace – where Prince Phillip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II was born – the iconic Panagia Vlacherna monastery and Pontikonisi island.
And a holiday on a Greek island would not be a real holiday if it did not include at least one day relaxing at the beach. Don’t miss out on the beaches in Dassia, Paleokastritsa, Glyfada, Kontokali and Kavos – these are all must-visits!
