East Tyrol, Austria
East Tyrol, Austria
East Tyrol is known for being a spectacular ski and outdoor sports destination, with activities like hiking, tobogganing, golf, fishing, and much more. Because of the abundance of snow, “firn skiing” is often possible into March and even April. The nearby Hohe Tauern National Park spans 1800 km² and is filled with natural wonders like glacier fields, over two hundred 3,000-metre-high summits, and deep green mountain lakes.
East Tyrol is also known for its hearty mountain cuisine, which includes dishes like hauswürstel bacon with dark farmhouse bread, schlipfkrapfen, which is similar to stuffed ravioli, and pregler schnapps made from apples and pears.
