This beautifully-designed apartment-hotel is centrally-located in the heart of historic Lisbon, with lots of restaurants and family-friendly attractions nearby. The Martinhal Chiado prides itself on being an elegant city haven for families. Each room is tastefully decorated, and the facade of the building itself dates back to 1855, with a fully-renovated interior.

The Martinhal Chiado is designed to make a family-friendly city escape easy, convenient, and fun. Like all Martinhal properties, the Chiado was truly designed with families in mind: each of their 37 apartments includes space for children, with the smallest studios accommodating a baby’s cot and the largest apartments including two separate bedrooms that can sleep up to two adults and four children in two bunk beds.

The Area

With its charming cobbled streets, colourful tiles, many palaces and sunny climate on the banks of the Tagus River, Lisbon is one of Europe’s most popular vacation destinations. The city’s iconic seven hills are capped with miradouros (viewpoints), where you can get unparalleled views of the the city and Tagus River unfolding at your feet. Whether you want to explore museums, restaurants, shop, or simply wander through the city to feast your eyes on its lovely architecture, Lisboa has something for everyone at very affordable prices – especially for a European capital.

One-bedroom Deluxe Apartment

These apartments (54 sqm) are perfect for parents who want a bit of privacy at the end of a long day of sight-seeing. They include a separate bedroom with a double bed, and a bunk bed that can accomodate two children under 12-years-old in the living room. These apartments are 54-square-metres, and include an open-plan kitchenette and separate bathroom.

Two-bedroom Deluxe Apartment

These luxurious two-bedroom apartments (80 sqm) are perfect for larger families who want space and privacy. The master bedroom has a double bed and en-suite bathroom, and the separate kids room has two bunk beds and can sleep up to four kids. These apartments also have a living room, second bathroom, and fully-equipped kitchen.

Greater Lisbon, Portugal

Cascais, where the hotel is located, is charming coastal resort town known for its beautiful sandy beaches and bustling marina. In the old town, you’ll find the medieval Nossa Senhora da Luz Fort and the Citadel Palace, which used to serve as a summer home for royalty.

Coliseu dos Recreios (Concert Hall)

The Martinhal Chiado’s kids club can accommodate children of (almost) all ages, from 6-month-old babies to young teenagers. Their creche welcomes babies under 23 months in a cosy dormitory with lots of age-appropriate toys.

For 2 to 5-year-olds, the Raposinhos Club has its own storytelling corner, puppetry area, ball pool and an indoor climbing wall, whereas 6 to 9-year-olds will love the Fox Club, where they can do arts and crafts or play Lego, X-Box, and more.

The Pyjama Club also offers evening entertainment for children over two in a relaxing, cozy environment so that parents can enjoy a romantic evening on the town.

Hang out at the M Bar

This cosy family café offers buffet breakfast to guests and light meals and snacks throughout the day. A red BMW Isetta that kids can play in works draws the eye, and the café also has a play corner.

This museum is set in a former thermoelectric plant, and is sure to fascinate children who love science or just want to see the cool old machinery up close. It’s in Belem, which is the area in the city with the greatest concentration of museums, so it’s a perfect jumping-off point for a day of museum-hopping.

Monsanto Forest Park

Monsanto is by far the largest park in the city, and is perfect for a picnic or a stroll through the trees. It’s within the city limits and easily reachable by public transportation.

Parque dos Indios

This park was specially designed with children in mind, and is separated into two zones for children of different ages. It includes a lighthouse, boat, labyrinth, and swingsets, as well as a picnic area. The esplanade is great for parents who want to relax and supervise from afar.

Ice Cream at Santini Belem

This historic ice cream shop has been a staple of Lisbon’s dessert scene for sixty years. In addition to their delicious ice cream, they also sell pastries and chocolates.

Stop at a bakery for a famous Pastel de Nata

No visit to Lisbon would be complete without a taste of pastel de nata, Portugal’s famous – and delicious – custard tart. You can find it in most bakeries in the city.
