General

The Apulian Twin Villas

are two family friendly villas in southern Italy sharing a pool and garden.

Total capacity:

  • 1 x Trullo which can sleep a maximum of 4 plus 1 baby
  • 1 x Villa which can sleep a maximum of 8 plus 1 baby

Useful things to know:

  • Two villas sharing one pool and garden
  • Can be rented together or separately
  • Fully fenced pool (open from mid-April until the end of October – chlorine, unheated)
  • Large garden with fruit trees and playground
  • Outdoor dining areas incl. BBQ
  • Owners available to arrange excursions and extra services
  • Closest beach is 30 minutes’ drive
  • Closest airports are Bari and Brinidisi (about 1.15 hours)

Set in tranquil countryside in southern Italy, this enchanting pair of detached properties – one old, one new – that share a pool and outdoor space can be rented separately or together.

The Trullo, a round stone house with a conical roof typical of the region, has been lovingly restored by its owners, retaining much of its authenticity. Limestone floors, exposed arches, traditional wicker work and atmospheric photographs add up to charming interiors. The heart of the home is the fully equipped kitchen and the open plan living area with a cosy TV corner and fireplace. One double bedroom and one twin room make it ideal for a family of four. In summer, meals can be enjoyed outdoors on the dining terrace, and relaxing days can be spent under the fragrant pine trees and in the shady courtyard. The Trullo does not have air conditioning, but its thick stone walls keep it comfortably cool even in high summer.

The Villa, a more contemporary home, is a single storey property with three bedrooms. Bright, breezy and modern in style, all bedrooms have glass doors that open onto the villa’s private garden planted with fruit trees. In addition to a kitchen, dining room and lounge, there are outdoor gathering spaces for eating and lounging. The villa includes a master bedroom with en suite bathroom, a second double room, and a twin room where single beds have pull outs that extend to doubles, providing enough space for two families. The villa is equipped with air conditioning.

Both villas share the fully fenced 10×10 metre pool (chlorine, unheated – depth: 1m-1,40m), surrounding gardens and barbecue area. An ideal rural retreat, there is no shortage of things to do in the vicinity, from visiting historic towns and villages to discovering nearby beaches, theme parks or the caves of Castellana. The owners, who live a few minutes away, are warmly welcoming and happy to arrange additional activities, such as horse riding, beauty treatments, private chefs and cooking classes.

Our Reviews

Katrin Dirigil stayed with her 4 children and husband Christian at the Apulian Twin Villas end of May 2019:

Einfach empfehlenswert!!"

Makia Matheis stayed with her family at the Apulian Twin Villas two weeks in July 2019:

"This summer my family and I stayed in Puglia, Italy in a traditional Trullo. It did not disappoint!! llonka was so helpful, even when we booked the place with the host Ilonka still checked in to see if our trip was okay. The residence was everything that was advertised through the little voyager. We spent two weeks there and our two children, ages 3 and 5 loved the pool and swing set. I highly recommend The Little Voyager and we are looking forward to booking with llonka again."

Ice Cream

Apulian Twin Apartments Shops with The Little Voyager

We all know taking out the kids for some ice-cream is always a good plan and Polignano a Mare has some of the best ice-cream places in the region!

Water park

Acquapark Egnazia is southern Italy’s largest water park and offers endless fun for sure for the little ones.

Open every day from 17th June until 10th September. (Try to avoid the weekends as it gets quite busy.)

Beach

Apulian Twin Apartments Beach Front with The Little Voyager

There are many beautiful beaches in the region so why not pack a picnic and some beach gear and spend the day building sandcastles, jumping in the waves and relaxing in the sun?

The closest beach would be Lido Bizzarro, about 30 minutes away by car. This is a nice family beach on the Adriatic coast. There is also a small playground, as well as bar and restaurant with great sea view, just overlooking the beach, so the kids can get back to playing while the adults finish their meal in peace.

Open every day from beginning of May. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays.

The Caves of Castellana

The famous Grotte di Castellana began to form about 90 million years ago and is without doubt one of the main tourist attractions when visiting Puglia. It’s a truly magical experience for both kids and adults.

There are two different tours: The first is suitable for children and stretches over about 1 km lasting approximately 50 minutes and the second tour is 3 km long and lasts about 2 hours. We advise you to bring along a sweater as the air in the caves is very humid and it might get a bit chilly.

Horseback Riding

The beautiful Masseria Francesca, about 25 minutes by car from the Trullo (in the direction of Taranto) is home to the renowned Horseback Riding Academy “Il Moro di Puglia”. They work mostly with the local breed Murgese and organise, beside classic riding lessons, also tours on horseback or in a carriage through the beautiful countryside of the area.

Adventure Park Castellana Grotte

Here you can find several climbing trails for kids from age 2 years (there is a “Baby Park”) until adult age. There is a very nice picnic area as well!

Open every day from March 10 - November 10.

FURTHER AFIELD

Locorotondo

Apulian Twin Apartments Local Village with The Little VoyagerLocorotondo really does keep the promise of its proud title “One of Italy’s most beautiful villages”. The historical town centre is especially well-kept and looked after. This is mainly due to the fact that most of the houses are being lived in which is not always the case in other small villages. You will find lovingly restored facades, lots of beautiful flowers and plants on the balconies and many little restaurants that offer great local cuisine. The city is also famous for its wines and the name derives from its circular structure which means "Round place".

Alberobello

Alberobello TrulliA must-see place when visiting Puglia. The lovely village in Southern Italy is a Unesco site with 1500 perfectly preserved trulli (white, cone-roofed stone huts) and it is the only town built entirely of Trulli houses.  Please note due to its popularity It can get quite busy there, so it makes sense to visit the town if possible early morning. A great place to stop for ice cream: Gelateria Arte Fredda is right on the main road.

Matera

Town of Matera in PugliaMatera is the other Unesco World Heritage site in the area. Its setting is truly spectacular as it is built around a small canyon which has been eroded over the course of time. It is one of the oldest inhabited cities of the world and world famous for its “Sassi”, houses dug into the chalkstone rocks - characteristic of this area. Today many of the cave houses are being lovingly restored and turned into shops, bars, restaurants, or B&B’s. Thanks to its amazing scenery Matera is also frequently turned into a movie set.

If you have the time, it makes sense to book a guide as there is a lot to see and learn.

Lecce

Apulian Twin Apartments Local Church with The Little VoyagerA bit further away but definitely worth a visit is Lecce. It is a proud small city (90.000 inhabitants) set in the heart of the Salento region, in the south of Puglia and it is to many the true capital of Baroque. It is also a very young, creative, and vibrant city, home to several renowned fine art schools and a very interesting music scene. The centre of town is breathtakingly beautiful with its richly decorated churches, buildings, and arches. There are also several sites from the Roman era and of course many bars and restaurants. Many churches are closed in the afternoons so it is best to get there in the morning.

The Area

Cradled between the sparkling blue of the Adriatic Sea and the gently rolling hills of the interior, the town and municipality of Fasano is a low-key destination offering both coastal and rural attractions.

Situated roughly halfway between the towns of Bari and Brindisi, the coast is still largely undeveloped with long stretches of empty beach whilst inland remains an agricultural region, dotted with fortified farmhouses or ‘masseria’, many of which have been converted into agritourisms and boutique hotels.

The rich farmland produces olive oil, wine, fruit and vegetables, all of which play an important role in the regional cuisine.

Fasano town boasts an attractive historic centre filled with beautiful buildings, little piazzas and winding lanes whilst the surrounding area harbours all sorts of interesting places to visit, from the archaeological excavations of Egnazia to Italy’s largest safari-zoo, the impressive subterranean cave system at Grotte de Castellana and the unique cone-roofed ‘trulli’ houses that are so characteristic of Puglia.
