Overlooking a stunning vista of vineyards and the rolling hills beyond, the French Gîtes are a perfect place to get lost in the beauty of nature. The renovated farmhouse is surrounded by 4 cottages and is only 30 minutes away from the medieval city of Carcassonne.
The French Gîtes are run by a friendly family from the UK who have lived in the region for many years, and are very knowledgeable about the area. They can help book tours nearby, and have great tips about local foods and wines to try.
The cottages are surrounded by several acres of beautiful countryside. The 20m gated pool (chlorine, unheated) stretches to the horizon and is perfect for families. Kids can also make friends with other guests their age and take advantage of the play area, which has a trampoline, ping-pong table, swings, and a football field. Animal lovers will enjoy meeting the chickens, nearby sheep, and friendly cats.
Guests can order a delicious breakfast that includes fresh bread, Colombian coffee, organic juices, and viennoiseries like pain au chocolat and croissants. On Friday and Saturday nights in the summer, the hosts organise pizza dinners in the Barn Bar. The pizzas are cooked in the outdoor clay oven, and many of the ingredients come directly from nearby farms.

The Area
The Aude region of the Languedoc offers an altogether more tranquil and authentic version of southern France than one finds at the seaside resorts. Here, medieval castles perch on rocky crags and rivers meander gently through lush valleys.
Undulating vines and farmland surround sleepy villages, where family bakeries turn out fabulous breads and afternoon activities may be limited to a game of boules under the shade of a plane tree. There are plenty of historic towns and villages – most notably the citadel of Carcassonne – and the pretty Canal du Midi winds its way peacefully through the area.
With rivers, gorges, valleys and lakes, the scenery is spectacularly varied and begs to be discovered, and winery tours are always a popular way to spend a day or two when in the area. The peaks of the Pyrenees – good for skiing in winter, and walking in summer - are an hour away, and the coast is about the same.
