The Area
Cradled between the sparkling blue of the Adriatic Sea and the gently rolling hills of the interior, the town and municipality of Fasano is a low-key destination offering both coastal and rural attractions.
Situated roughly halfway between the towns of Bari and Brindisi, the coast is still largely undeveloped with long stretches of empty beach whilst inland remains an agricultural region, dotted with fortified farmhouses or ‘masseria’, many of which have been converted into agritourisms and boutique hotels.
The rich farmland produces olive oil, wine, fruit and vegetables, all of which play an important role in the regional cuisine.
Fasano town boasts an attractive historic centre filled with beautiful buildings, little piazzas and winding lanes whilst the surrounding area harbours all sorts of interesting places to visit, from the archaeological excavations of Egnazia to Italy’s largest safari-zoo, the impressive subterranean cave system at Grotte de Castellana and the unique cone-roofed ‘trulli’ houses that are so characteristic of Puglia.
